(God’s Not Dead) Yes, this headline is correct…Last week a U.S Army Ranger Chaplain was punished when he quoted the Bible and referenced scripture during a suicide prevention training session held at the University of North Georgia. According to the report from numerous media sources, Chaplain Joseph Lawhorn was issued a Letter of Concern warning him to “be careful to avoid any perception you are advocating one system of beliefs over another”… Apparently it went so far as “accusing him of advocating for Christianity and “using Christian scripture and solutions” FoxNews.com
Imagine that, an American Chaplain being accused of advocating for Christianity…
In another report by the CNSNews.com, former Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin (U.S. Army-Retired) and chair of the Restore Military Religious Freedom Coalition (RMRFC), also said that the treatment of Lawhorn violated the chaplain’s constitutional rights. Listen To Interview Below:
“First of all, his case is important because it is an infringement on his First Amendment rights,” Boykin told CNSNews.com. “Secondly he is a chaplain. By definition, chaplains deal with spiritual issues, and all he was doing was explaining how his faith helped him. “The third thing, though, is that this colonel that issued him a reprimand was in violation of the Army regulation.” Read Full Article Here
Fortunately our courageous Chaplain isn’t fighting this battle alone as faith-based organizations are rallying around him. According to a report from OneNewsNow.com “A coalition of organizations dedicated to upholding the religious freedom of those who serve in the U.S. military is coming to his aid…the American Family Association says the Lawhorn incident is another example of military chaplains and soldiers being stripped of the very rights they’re serving to protect.
AFA president Tim Wildmon had this to say…“Our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines put their lives on the line every day to protect our liberties, including our religious freedoms…It’s beyond understanding that anyone would seek to deny these very same soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines the religious liberty they fight and die for.” Read Full Article Here
